Alinda Capps Sledge went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, April 8, 2022. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, MS. Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at North Cleveland Cemetery.
Alinda was an amazing Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.
She was born in Greenwood, MS on February 17, 1951, to Charles Wilson Capps, Jr. and Allen Hobbs Capps. She married the late Thomas Nevin Sledge in Cleveland, MS on February 13, 1971.
Alinda was a Licensed Certified Social Worker and retired as Chair/Professor of Social Work at Delta State University.
She was a true servant of the Lord. Being a devout member of the First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, MS she served as Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and on various other committees within the church.
Alinda served her community in many ways and was recognized for her service. The American Cancer Society Quality of Life Award, Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence, S.E. Kossman University Outstanding Teacher Award, and The President’s Volunteer Service Award are just a few of her accolades.
Alinda had a heart and passion for helping others. She spent most of her time teaching, mentoring, and serving people. All that knew her also knew that she had their best interest in mind. She wanted everyone to reach their full potential in life. The impact she had on numerous lives was immeasurable. Alinda loved her family and friends unconditionally.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wilson Capps, Jr. and Allen Hobbs Capps, her husband Thomas Nevin Sledge, her mother-in-law Brenda Sledge, and sister-in-law Luanne Sledge Pratt.
She is survived by her son, Allen Thomas Sledge, her daughter-in-law Anna Alford Sledge, and two grandsons Ford Murphy and Capps Sledge, her sister Margaret (Meredith) Allen of Greenwood, MS, her brother Charlie III (Cordelia) Capps of Cleveland, MS, her father-in-law Nevin Sledge of Cleveland, MS her sister-in-law Melissa (Ron) Osborne of Glendale, Missouri, brother-in-law Wilson (Peggy) Sledge of Cleveland, MS, many beloved nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends that she loved like family.
The family also wants to thank her caregivers and especially her close friends Renae Ray, Shirley Williams, and Patti Dixon.
