Alton Gilbert

Mr. Alton Edward Gilbert, Sr., 76, or Rosedale, passed away August 17, 2013, at his home. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Hall officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Gilbert was born in Yazoo City to Homer Gilbert and Rosie Mae Stone Gilbert on January 23, 1937. On April 18, 1958, he married Margie Louise Haire in Cleveland, MS. He worked for AMPCO for 25 years and JanTran Inc. for 19 years as a welder. He loved to hunt, fish, and fight game chickens.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Rosie Mae Gilbert; brothers, Billy Ray Gilbert, Jimmy Gilbert, Joseph Gilbert, Homer Gilbert, and Howard Gilbert, Jr.; and sisters, Rita Moody and Eva Pearle Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margie "Lou" Gilbert of Rosedale; daughter, Lucy Mathews of Covington, GA; sons, Alton Gilbert, Jr. (Linda) of Cleveland, John Raymond Gilbert, Sr. (Patricia) of Beulah, David Len Gilbert, Sr. (Shellie) of Greenville, and Wendell Creig Gilbert (Tracy) of Cleveland; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby Gilbert (Kay) of Pace; and sisters, Mary Lee Pope (Hubert) of Cleveland and Nita Oller of Indianola.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Alton Gilbert III, Ed Gilbert, John Raymond Gilbert, Jr., Henry Gilbert, Austin Gilbert, David Gilbert, Jr., Wendell Gilbert, Jr., and Johnny Pham.
