Ann Harris Willis,78, formerly of Greenville, MS and Dover, TN passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Cleveland Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Ray Funeral Home. Interment will be in Indianola City Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris was born in Memphis, TN on January 24, 1934, to Grover Owen and Agnes Young Braswell, both now deceased. Ann graduated from Sunflower Agriculture High School, Moorhead, MS in 1950. After attending Sunflower Junior College she transferred to Mississippi Southern College. Ann was a member of the Dixie Darlings and the Kappa Delta Sorority. After marrying Robert Charles Harris, she transferred to the University of Mississippi where she graduated. After graduation Ann began a teaching career that spanned over forty years. The majority of that time was with the Greenville Mississippi Public School System. Ann was an active and respected part of both her social and professional communities. She is a past President of the American Association of University Women; she was an active member of her local church, participating in numerous church and community activities; she was an active member of The Red Hat Society; and she was a member of several bridge clubs. Ann demonstrated her courage and love for life as she battled cancer for the final five years of her life, while still maintaining an active and productive life>Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her long-time husband,Robert Charles "Bob" Harris; and more recently her second husband,Hal Willis.
She is survived by her Children, Owen Montgomery "Chuck" Harris (Gail) of Louisville, KY, Melissa "Missy" Harris Washington (Kent) of Cleveland, MS; Robert Graham Harris of Spring, TX, and Joseph "Joe" Charles Harris (Denise) of Jackson, MS; sister, Bette Nell Braswell Hutto (Fred) of Byram, MS; 6 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren.
Ann, better known as "Bea" to her grandchildren and many others who were a part of her circle of close friends, will be missed. She had a gift of creating a positive sense of excitement in otherwise routine situations.
