Athalie Buckley

Athalie M. Buckley "Tot" passed away November 27, 2013, at Delta Regional in Greenville, MS. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, December, 4, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. Celebration of Life Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Barry Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Tot was born on September 30, 1919 in New Hebron to James Peterson and Rosa Smith Mullen; the last of 10 children. Tot graduated from New Hebron High School in 1938 and many years later graduated with a Bachelors in Education from Delta State University in 1963 then an MBE in 1968. She married Thomas Kelly Buckley December 24, 1941 in Jackson, MS. They moved to the Delta in 1953 where she taught in the Drew public school system for over 20 years. After her retirement, she was active in many organizations in the community including the First United Methodist Church, Cleveland Women's Club, and Cleveland Garden Club. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, whom she loved dearly, and playing bridge. She is preceded in death by her parents, 9 siblings, and her husband. Tot is survived by her three children, Dr. Michael Buckley (Sylvie), Ted Buckley, and Beverly Buckley Roemer (Kurt); and 6 grandchildren, Anna Buckley Fagan (Chris), Chris Roemer, Matt Buckley (Natasha), Lauren Roemer, Rachel Buckley and Thomas Roemer; and great grandchildren, Daniel Fagan and Paige Fagan.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland and the Cleveland-Bolivar County Animal Shelter.
