Mrs. Ava Lee Mitchell, 88, of Drew, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. A second visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015, at Friendship West Baptist Church in Sumner, MS. Celebration of Life services will follow beginning at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015, at Friendship West Baptist Church in Sumner, MS with Rev. Robert Clark officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Sumner Cemetery. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Philadelphia, MS on March 6, 1927, to Joe A. Williams and Lilly Rogers Williams. On November 30, 1946, she married W.L. Mitchell, Jr. She was a member of Friendship West Baptist Church and taught Children's Church and Sunday School there for many years. She loved cooking, entertaining, football, traveling, visiting people, and being on the go.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe A. Williams and Lilly Rogers Williams; husband, W. L. Mitchell, Jr.; and son, Jerry Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her three sons, Jim Mitchell (Donna) of Ft. Payne, AL, Doug Mitchell (Ruth) of Greenville, MS, and Clay McKee (Sara) of Cleveland, MS; six grandchildren, Kasey Carter, Ashley Donaldson, Layne Lee, Brad Mitchell, Clay McKee, Jr., and Penni Morgan; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Billy Joe Williams of Sumner and Bobby Williams of Drew; and one sister, Helen McCullough of Sumner. In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendship West Baptist Church.
