Barbara was born on May 28, 1948, to John Wesley “JW” and Georgia Braxton in Shelby, Mississippi.
Barbara grew up in the Mississippi Delta, where she cultivated her passion for music. She was a vibrant member of the gospel singing group, "Harvest Time Gospel Singers," even recording an album that showcased her deep love for gospel music. Her faith was integral to her life, as demonstrated by her active membership at First Assembly of God in Rosedale and First Baptist Church in Rosedale.
Known for her remarkable cooking skills, Barbara took great pride in preparing Thanksgiving dinner, insisting on doing it herself each year. This tradition highlighted her nurturing spirit and her desire to bring family together around the table. Her love for family extended to her talent for quilting, as she created beautiful quilts for all her children and grandchildren, patiently teaching them the art of quilting, ensuring her legacy would be passed down through generations.
She is preceded by her parents, John Wesley "JW" Braxton and Georgia Braxton; her husband, Cornelius "Mac" Farmer; her beloved grandchildren, Karla, Peyton, Katelyn, and Olivia; brother, George Braxton; and sisters, Linda Bolen and Ashley "Angel" Braxton.
Barbara leaves behind her devoted children, Melissa McCloud of Bryant, AL, Jason Farmer (Stephanie) of Water Valley, MS, Jeremy Farmer (Veronica) of Rosedale, MS, and Rachel Erwin of Rosedale, MS; and her treasured grandchildren, Cody, Whitney, Jason, Mackenzie, Madison, Dalton, Brandon, Brian, Destiny, and Courtney. She also rejoiced in the presence of her great-grandchildren, Jayden, Harmony, Aiden, Kai’den, Kaiser, Wyatt, Kameron, and Nevaeh; brothers, Benjamin "Benny" Braxton of MS and Gerald Braxton of KY; loving best friend, Teresa Jackson.
Barbara Farmer's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, dedication to family, and the joy she derived from sharing her talents with those she loved. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for her warmth, creativity, and strength of spirit.
