Barbara Jordan Hazzard

Barbara Jordan Hazzard Blackwell of North Richland Hills, Texas passed away on October 9, 2022 after a battle with cancer. She was 83 years old.

Barbara was born October 8, 1939, to Louise and Oscar Jordan, and raised in Cleveland, MS with along with her brother Jimmy.

She attended Cleveland High School and met her sweetheart and soon-to-be husband, William “Billy” Hazzard.  She attended Delta State College where she studied business while maintaining honor-roll grades each semester.

Barbara and Billy married in December 1959, and the couple settled in Greenville, MS while Billy pursued a career in the insurance industry. Their son, Billy Jr. was born in 1963, and the young family settled in Memphis, TN.

As her son grew older, Barbara found fulfilling work in the law and sales industries in Memphis.

Upon retirement, the Hazzards built their dream home in Hernando, MS and made it a special place to spend time with their cherished grandson, Zack.

After Billy Sr. passed in July 2008, Barbara remarried William Earl Blackwell and began a new chapter in her life. The couple moved from Hernando to North Richland Hills, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Barbara was an avid reader who loved to discuss books and get recommendations. She made many friends among her neighbors and in her Wine Down Club in Texas.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Billy Sr., parents Louise and Oscar, and brother Jimmy.

She is survived by her husband William Earl Blackwell, son William Hazzard, Jr. (Alice), grandson Zack Hazzard, stepdaughters Lisa Garth and Leslie Spruill (James), nephews, nieces, and many friends.

Barbara will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. at North Cleveland cemetery, Cleveland MS. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Dallas, Texas.
