Marion Bern Prewitt, Sr. was born on Friday, September 17, 1937. Bern was the firstborn child of Elmer Lawrence and Hattie McGarrh Prewitt, and a life-long resident of Bolivar County, Mississippi.
Bern graduated from Boyle High School in 1955, then moved on to study at Mississippi State University for a time before returning to oversee the family farming operation. He was actively involved in the establishment of Boyle Flying Service in 1971, and the addition of Advanced Mosquito Control in 2006.
Bern followed in the footsteps of his own father, becoming Supervisor of Bolivar County District Five in 1992. He continued a life of exemplary public service to the citizens of Bolivar County for sixteen (16) years. During that time, the board built a new correctional facility, as well as a new health department. It also updated road equipment, built bridges throughout the county, and annexed a new board room at the court house.
He served in leadership positions in many civic clubs and organizations, corresponding personally with many key lawmakers over the years to facilitate vital assistance for numerous critical projects to benefit the Mississippi Delta Region including: Bolivar County School Board, National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA), Vice President; Mississippi Agricultural Aviation Association (MAAA), President for two terms, 1998 and 1999; Delta Council Board Member, and Mississippi Ag Museum Board Member.
Bern is survived by his wife, Bobbye, and his two children, Bern, Jr. (Kris) and Melissa; Bobbye's children Terry (Bean) and Buddy. Bern will be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren: Bethany, Serah, Alexa, Taylor, Anne, Megan, Jason, and Trey; his great grandchildren: Reese, Tyler and Ava; and his sister El Laurie Bolm.
Public visitation will be at Boyle Baptist Church, 208 N Brooks Ave, Boyle, Mississippi, on Monday, August 19, from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral service in memory of Bern will be held on Tuesday, August 20, at 10 a.m., also at Boyle Baptist Church, 208 N Brooks Ave, Boyle, with Brother Clarence Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at North Cleveland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Bern may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Mississippi Agricultural Museum, or First Baptist Church of Boyle.
