Bertie Mae Boyd, 100, of Clinton, MS, formerly of Merigold, MS went peacefully to her heavenly home on July 4, 2019. Funeral services will be Monday, July 8 at Ray's Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS with visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd was born March 5, 1919 in Royse City, TX to Ollie Mae Myers and Alonzo C. Myers. She was the third of six children. She married William W. Boyd in 1938 and they enjoyed sixty-nine years of marriage prior to his death in 2007. Together they had one daughter, Virginia.
In her lifetime, Bertie Mae worked tirelessly beside her husband to farm cotton and soybeans in the Merigold area. She was an excellent cook and often took meals to others. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and raising vegetables and flowers. She was also an amazing seamstress who made beautiful clothing and quilts. Not one to sit still, in her eighties she started oil painting and jewelry making. She was a longtime member of Merigold Baptist Church and then Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, MS.
Survivors include her daughter, Virginia and her husband Ralph; granddaughter, Amy Ellis and her husband, Griff and their daughter, Mackenzie and their son, Cameron; granddaughter, Jennifer Summerlin and her husband, Phil and their daughter Emily. She is also survived by a very special nephew, Lonnie Boyd; sisters Margurite Vernon and Wilma West, as well as, other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Alford, Charles Boyd, Jr., Wallace Boyd, Griff Ellis, William Quinton and Phil Summerlin.
