Betty J Tuttle

Betty Lee Johnson Tuttle, born February 24, 1929 in Greenwood, MS to Frank H. and Ruby Johnson, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Walter B. Crook Nursing Home in Ruleville, MS. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. at Ruleville United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 27, 2021 with a Celebration of Life service following at 2:00 p.m. A Graveside service will follow at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville. Mrs. Tuttle and her brother Harold grew up in Greenwood, MS. After high school graduation, she enrolled in Bowling Green Business College in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where she met Charles E. Tuttle. They married in 1948, lived for a short time in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and then made their way back to the Mississippi Delta. Daughters Shirley and Joyce were born to them while they lived in Doddsville. In the mid-1950's, the family moved to Ruleville, and soon after, twin sons John and James were born. Mrs. Tuttle was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed staying home to raise her children. She and her sewing machine turned out many dresses for two daughters and some for her one granddaughter. Both her sons turned out to be wonderful cooks, no doubt due to the example she and her husband both set. Mrs. Tuttle was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Ruleville. She was involved with the church's Women's Guild and 20th Century Club. After her children were grown, she held part time office jobs for a few years- most of those years as secretary for the Ruleville United Methodist Church. She loved having family come to visit and enjoyed emailing friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years and her sons, James R. Tuttle and John G. Tuttle. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Tuttle Simmons (Ed) and Joyce Tuttle Riales; grandson, Christopher E. Simmons (Kristina); granddaughter, Melissa Simmons Tamez (Reggie); and great-grandchildren, Caleb and Kaitlyn Simmons and Caroline Tamez.
