Betty Sue Miller, 89, of Cleveland, MS, passed away on March 5, 2018, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland with Rev. Will Wilkerson officiating. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Betty was born on August 20, 1928, to Leon Landon Carroll and Clara Creekmore Carroll in Drew, MS. She married Earl Brewer Cooper of Cadaretta on August 28, 1948. They had 4 children. After his passing, Betty proudly owned and ran Cooper Cheese Company in Brooksville, MS for 15 years with her son, Henry Cooper. She was the WMU director for the Noxubee County Baptist Associating. On September 21, 1996, she married O.W. Miller in Brooksville, MS. She was a devout Christian and an active member of the Methodist church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. Betty served as the Pilot Club President in 1983, a business women's organization, and also the president for the Girl's Auxiliary in the First Baptist Church in Columbia, TN. During her time in Columbia, she taught preschool for 5 years. Upon moving to Cleveland, she worked at B&W Monument for many years. Betty loved to play the piano and was an accomplished artist. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Clara Carroll; late husband, Earl B. Cooper; grandson, Christopher Calliham; and two siblings, Leon L. Carroll, Jr. and Martha Dill.
Betty is survived by her husband, O.W. Miller of Cleveland; children, Rebecca Cooper of Kingsport, TN, Henry Cooper of Jacksonville, FL, Mark Cooper (Pat) of Arlington, TX, and Susan Pettibone (Richard) of New Milford, CT; step-son, Glenn Miller (Jeanne) of Hernando; step-daughter, Tina Miller of Pasadena, CA; grandchildren; Richard Cooper (Ivy), Benjamin Cooper (Lynn), Luke Cooper (Cherish), Samuel Cooper, and Alex Calliham (Tiffany); 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy Cooper; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family; and care-givers, Brenda Douglas of Cleveland and Miriam James of Merigold.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks in Mrs. Miller's memory that donations be made to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or the Mississippi Food Bank.
