Bettye Sue Ray Hill McCool, of Cleveland Mississippi, passed away on March 5, 2024. She was born on November 28, 1947, to her loving parents Clayton Arvel Ray and Margaret Salley Ray.
There will be a visitation for Bettye on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 10-11am at Ray Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life at the same location from 11:00am until 12:00pm. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Old Cleveland Cemetery.
Bettye Sue had a fulfilling career path where she dedicated herself to serving others. She worked at Baxter Healthcare for several years before joining the Bolivar County Welfare Department, where she spent the next 16 years assisting those in need. Her commitment to helping people extended to her work in Home Health until her well-deserved retirement.
A proud graduate of Cleveland High School's class of 1965, Bettye Sue cherished her educational journey and valued the importance of learning throughout her life.
Family was at the center of Bettye Sue's world. Her husband Charles Hubert McCool was her rock, and together they raised two daughters, Anna Margaret and Margaret Ann. The arrival of her beloved grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren brought immense joy into Bettye Sue's life.
In her leisure time, Bettye Sue found utmost happiness in the company of her family. Whether it was creating lasting memories with her children or sharing special moments with her grandchildren, Bettye Sue's love for her family shone bright. Her life was a tapestry woven with beautiful moments that will be forever treasured by those she leaves behind.
Bettye is preceded in death by her parents, Clayton Arvel Ray and Margaret Salley Ray. Her husband, Charles Hubert McCool, her daughter Anna Margaret Taylor and Granddaughter Robin Leah Wilkerson.
Bettye Sue McCool is survived by her daughter Margaret Ann (Robert) Wilkerson; grandchildren Hunter (Kathryn) Taylor, Hannah (Codie) Havens, Parker Hood, and Elizabeth Ray Wilkerson, sister Freda Lovitt and great grandchildren Madilyn Havens and Anna Jayne Taylor.
Bettye had a very special bond with her best friend, Otis and she was forever thankful for him and the fact that he was always there for her.
Last but certainly not least, Bettye loved her fur babies very much. Their love for her and hers for them helped her to make it through many days,
While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable woman, we take solace in knowing that Bettye Sue McCool's legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Bettye stated many times that she had a wonderful life and had absolutely no regrets. May she rest in peace.
