Billy Cummins Sr.

William "Billy" Isaac Cummins, Sr. 89 of Drew, MS went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2021. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Drew Baptist Church in Drew, MS. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Drew Baptist Church. Interment immediately following at Drew Cemetery.
Billy was born May 9, 1932, in Sunflower County, MS to W.R. "Pete" & Mary Lee (Clark) Cummins. He graduated from Drew High School. Billy married Helen Moody July 9, 1954, in Drew, MS. They were married 67 years. In 1954 Billy was drafted in the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Lee, VA.
He continued to serve in the National Guard. Billy was a Sunflower County Supervisor for 16 years and actively served on the VA Board. He personally signed notes at the bank for North Sunflower County Hospital for payroll. If he hadn't refused to give up, the hospital wouldn't be here today. He was a member of Drew Baptist Church, since Baptism at the age of 12. Prior to his illness he was the longest living active member.
He is predeceased by his parents, Pete & Mary Lee Cummins; and brothers, Richard, George "Chuck", Bobby Joe, and Gladwin Cummins. Billy is survived by his loving wife, Helen Cummins; daughter, Kathy Cummins Bryant (Barry) of Rome, MS; sons, Bill Cummins (Brenda) of Drew and Lee Cummins (Amy) of Drew, MS; grandchildren, Christopher (Laura) Whatley of Starkville, MS, Asa Whatley of Rome, MS, Baylor Bryant of Itta Bena, MS, Brancy (Hillary) of Gallatin, TN, Brady (Alex) Cummins of Cleveland, MS, Brandon (Lauren) Cummins of Cleveland, MS, Jessica Cummins of Memphis, TN, Meghan (Tyler) West of Drew, MS, Courtney Cummins of Hattiesburg, MS, and Katie Cummins of Cleveland, MS; siblings, Ankie (Stella) Cummins of Cleveland, Jonathan (Margaret) Cummins of Pearl, MS David (Dorothy) Cummins of Madison, MS, Celeste Cummins Rhymes of Hazlehurst, MS, Lydia Cummins Pruett of Sheridan, AR, Henry (Becky) Cummins of Drew, MS; great grandchildren, Olivia Whatley of Hattiesburg, MS, Avery Whatley of Ruleville, MS, Mary Frances, Grace & Ellie Whatley of Starkville, MS, James Archer Bryant of Itta Bena, MS, Hollis Cummins of Gallatin, TN Grayson & Lawson Cummins of Cleveland, MS, Brailyn and Crue Cummins of Cleveland, MS Ansleigh and John Rowan West of Drew, MS, Emery and Brody Johnson of Memphis, TN; great great grandchild, Madox Asa Harmon of Ruleville, MS.
