Billy York

Mr. Billy York, 72, of Mathiston, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2014, at Darlington Oaks in Verona, MS. Visitation will be 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home. Services will immediately follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow in Shelby City Cemetery.
Mr. York was born September 3, 1941, to John Harvey and Bertha Lee Rico York in Gunnison. On October 23, 1989, he married Dorothy Hatcher at Chicot Co., Arkansas. He loved to hunt, and even more he enjoyed being at Concordia Rod and Gun Club and working as caretaker for 12 years. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed listing to the birds and the sounds of nature. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Mathiston, MS. He was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved by so many, and the people who really knew him knew that his pride was in his family. He was always smiling as he faced the day with God on his side.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Bertha Lee York; brothers, Tommie York of Cleveland, MS and Harvey Jr. York of Gunnison, MS.
Mr. York is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dorothy H. York of Mathiston, MS; children, Ricky and Vickie York of Gunnison, MS, John and Donna Thompson of Avon, MS, Vonda Singletary and Robert Nelson of Mathiston, MS, Lesa and Sam Bagwell of Starkville, MS, Marvin and Juliet Thompson of Cypress, TX, and Brian and Amy Thompson of Nashville, TN; 18 grandkids; 11great-grandchildren; one
brother, Carl York of Perthshire, MS; and two sisters, Phillis Gordon of Cleveland and Omagee Ferrell of Nesbit.
