Bobby Hood Burrell

Mr. Bobby Hood Burrell, 83, of Hernando, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Baptist Desoto Hospital. Visitation will be 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Marshall officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery. Mr. Burrell was born in Indianola, MS, on September 8, 1932, to C.O. "Hoss" Burrell, Sr. and Mary Hood "Lady" Burrell. As a young man, Bobby was very athletic and received a football scholarship to Mississippi Community College. He continued to enjoy participating in baseball in community leagues in the Cleveland area throughout his life. On October 17, 1953, he married Wilodene Williams in Cleveland, MS. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force in the Pacific Atomic Proving Grounds in the Marshall Islands and Operation Red Wing on Eniwetok.
He loved to fish, travel, and listen to country music. Mr. Bobby worked as a Ceramic Tile Industrial Engineer for 37 years at Ceramic Tile. After he retired, he love to cook for his family and friends and was known for his inventive recipes. In later years, he was a history buff and he enjoyed reading about any kind of military history. If you ever came to visit, he would invite you to watch an old movie with him, especially if it was on the western channel. Most of all, Bobby loved his family and friends. He has a quick wit and loved to sit and swap tales with friends. He loved the Delta and wanted nothing more than to return there each time he left. He is preceded in death by his parents, C.O. "Hoss" Burrell and Mary Hood "Lady Burrell. Mr. Burrell is survived by his wife, Wilodene Williams Burrell; daughters, Bobby "Punkin" Burrell Bellflower (Dale) of Hernando; Jan Burrell Manning (Tim) of Sahuarita, AZ, and Joyce "Missy" Burrell Boyd (Charlie) of Hernando; granddaughters, Leigh Manning Horton (Chris) of Cleveland, Lorien "Lori" Manning of Chandler, AZ, Jamie Boyd Whitney (Chris) of Caldonia, and Emily Boyd Williams (Mark) of Hernando; grandson, Williams "Will" Dale Bellflower of Hernando; great-grandchildren, Shelby Layne Horton of Cleveland, Spencer Michael Horton of Cleveland, and Elliott Claire Whitney of Caldonia; sister, Gloria "Doll" Posey of Cleveland. Pallbearers will be Dale Bellflower, Tim Manning, Charlie Boyd, Will Bellflower, Spencer Horton, Chris Horton, Chris Whitney, and Mark Williams. In Memory of Mr. Burrell, the family asks that donations be made to Parkway Baptist Church 50 North Parkway Hernando, MS 38632.
