Bonita Shivers Metcalf, 92, of Fayetteville, AR, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Avenir Memory Care in Fayetteville, AR after a lengthy illness. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at New Cleveland Cemetery.
Ms. Metcalf was born on December 16, 1926 in Arcola, MS to Mr. Charles Shivers and Mrs. Rosa Shivers. She moved to the Linn Community at six months of age. Ms. Metcalf graduated from Boyle High School. After graduating high school, she attended the MS College for Women, and graduated from Delta State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Ms. Metcalf lived in Clarksdale, MS for many years, and she was active in the community. She was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church and the Garden Club, winning many awards in flower arranging. She served as a State Officer and held membership in the state and national Garden Clubs. Ms. Metcalf was a Charter member of the Community Concert Association, and she also served on the Board of Directors. In Cleveland, MS. Metcalf was a member of The First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Circle II, and the Prayer Group. She was a Charter member of the Women's Club that is now called Ephtic. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, volunteer at Bolivar Medical Center, and a member of the Delta State University Alumni. Ms. Metcalf held farming interests in Sunflower County. She was often referred to as a community caregiver, doing things for others and visiting patients in hospitals and nursing homes.
Ms. Metcalf is preceded in passing by her parents, Charles and Rosa Shivers, husband, William Edward Metcalf, and son, Charles Shivers Metcalf.
Ms. Metcalf is survived by her son, Robert (Bob) Edward Metcalf, granddaughter, Maria Giovanni Metcalf Adair (Andy) of Kirkland, Washington, grandson, Justin Edward Metcalf of El Paco, TX, two great grandsons; Austin Malverick Adair, and Lincoln Patrick Adair of Kirkland, WA.
