Bryce Clinton 'B.C.' Ruth

Mr. Bryce Clinton Ruth, Sr., 94, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Indywood Estates. Visitation will be 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015, at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville with Rev. Will Wilkerson officiating. Interment will be in Lehrton Cemetery. Mr. Ruth was born in Pittsboro, MS, on May 28, 1920, to Barney Edward Ruth and Sara Elizabeth Armstrong Ruth. He proudly served the United States Army during WWII, where he became a Purple Heart recipient for his actions as a forward observer in Northern Africa and Italy. On February 14, 1948, he married Mary Kathryn Arant in Greenwood, MS. He worked at The Mississippi State Penitentiary as a Director of Records for 34 years, and he retired as Chairman of the Mississippi Parole Board.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, Order of the Purple Heart, Veteran's of Foreign War, American Legion, Ruleville Rotary Club, and Farm Bureau.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Barney Edward Ruth and Sara Elizabeth Armstrong Ruth; step-mother, Flossie B. Ruth; and son, Bryce Clinton Ruth, Jr. Mr. Ruth is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Kathryn Arant Ruth of Cleveland ; son, Miller Ruth (Elizabeth) of Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Martha Ruth of White House, TN; granddaughters, Lauren Ruth of Murfreesboro, Tn, Mary Frances Ruth Carroll (Tyler) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Kathleen Bryce Ruth Powell (J.D.) of Cleveland, MS; grandson, Bryce Clinton Ruth, III (Emily) of Indianapolis, IN; 4 great-granddaughters; 1 great-grandson; sisters, Mildred Moore of Marks, MS and Nancy Turner (Wesley) of Memphis, TN. Pallbearers will be Hugh Arant, Jr., David Arant, Bryce Clinton Ruth, III, Tyler Carroll, Butch Ruth, and Andy Arant. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Kirk, John Land, Randy Little, Larry Brown, and Calvin Baldwin. In honor of Mr. Ruth's service to his country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at half mast at Ray Funeral Home. In memory of Mr. Ruth, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Cleveland or the charity of your choice.
