Obituary of Walter H. "Buddy" Tolbert Walter "Buddy" Tolbert, of Cleveland, MS, went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. There will be a Private family service held in loving memory of our precious BudBud. Tim Starnes, Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, MS will be officiating.
Buddy was born on February 11, 1930, in Laurel, MS to Buck and Helen Tolbert. He graduated from Belzoni High School in 1947. He went on to play college football at Sunflower Junior College and Delta State University.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and served four years during the Korean War. Upon returning from active duty, Buddy obtained an accounting degree from Mississippi College in 1956.
Buddy married his "sweetheart", Anne Tolbert in 1955 and together they raised the Tolbert sisters-Patti, Sherri, and Libbi.
Buddy was manager of Hollandale Seed & Delinting, owner and President of Sunburst Seed Company, and served two terms on the Mississippi State Parole Board. He was appointed by Governor Kirk Fordice and Governor Haley Barbour.
BudBud loved fishing and golfing with his great grandson, Little Ray Glasgow and loved being with all his family. His favorite pastime was the love of "storytelling." He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Cleveland, MS.
Buddy was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years; Anne Tolbert, his parents; Buck and Helen Tolbert, his hero Uncle; Harry H. Rowell, Sr., and his sister Peggy Tolbert Hammond.
He leaves behind; three daughters, Patti Anne Tolbert of Cleveland, MS, Sherri Stockton (Toe) of Cleveland, MS, and Libbi Cox (Kim) of Greenville, MS. Grandchildren; Chrissy Stockton Glasgow "Ray" of Hernando, MS, Matthew Trawick (Ashley) of Huntsville, AL, Anne Reagan Cox of Greenville, MS, and Taylor Stockton Taylor (Conner) of Southaven, MS.
Great Grandchildren; Madisyn Grantham (Jonah), Ray Glasgow, Mason Glasgow, Hobson Cox and Lynley Cox (Little Girl).
Little Sister, Diane Tolbert McKee of Madisyn, MS. (My Blessed Buddy) Nieces; Jackie Hammond Kuykendall of Collerville, TN, Lisa Reagan (Andy, Carly, and Mikayla) of Destin, FL, Helen Mckee of Little Rock, AR, and his Goddaughter, Katharine Surkin (Joe and Mary Kate) of Madisyn, MS, and brother in law, John Reagan of Childersburg, AL.
