Carl Edward Towles, 89, of Cleveland passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at his home with his family by his side. Graveside Service will be 11:00 pm Friday, November 28, 2014, in North Cleveland Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will be held after at the Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Towles was born in Humphreys County, MS on February 5, 1925, to W.H. Towles and Cora Lillian Miller Towles. From 1943 to 1946 he proudly served in the United States Army Infantry as a squad leader and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He loved his country and enjoyed being involved in Military Functions. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and order of the Purple Heart. On June 7, 1946, he married Edna Ruth Rice in Cleveland, MS. He was also a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for 20 years. He was a wonderful family man who loved his family with all of his heart, he enjoyed sharing war stories with friends and family and listening to music.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Ruth Towles; children, Edward Towles (Carol Ann), Don Towles (Billie), and Mary Mitchell (Todd); grandchildren, Michael Towles, Melanie Towles Russell, Allen Towles (Callie), Josh Mitchell, and Bethany Cassibry (Johnny); and 6 great-grandchildren.
