Carolyn McCain Bullock, 77, of Southaven, MS passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 of complications due to a heart attack.
Carolyn was born May 10, 1937 to Samuel Lexie McCain and Willie Eliza McCain. She grew up in Cleveland, MS and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1955. Carolyn attended Mississippi College in Clinton, MS and received a BA in Elementary Education and later received a Master's Degree in Education from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. Ms. Bullock was a first grade teacher for over 40 years, she taught school in Biloxi, MS, SBEC in Memphis, TN, Pace, MS, Tyler, TX, and Grapevine, TX where she received The Best Elementary Teacher of Texas Award and was interviewed on national news in 1985. Ms. Bullock retired from Bay St. Louis Elementary School in 2002.
Carolyn was known as the "Hostess with the Mostess" as she loved to entertain and play cards from Master Bridge to Hand and Foot with her close friends. A fill in pianist for the Morrison Chapel Baptist Church during her college years with Amazing Grace as her favorite hymn, an avid flower gardener and dedicated grandmother. Carolyn had a sassy personality and was always dressed to the nines with her great sense of >Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Minnie Livingston, sister, Evelyn McCain Browning, brother, Joseph Patrick McCain, and nephew Jacky McCain. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Cathryn Conroy Kanter of Malibu, CA and Caroline Elizabeth Conroy of Santa Monica, CA, 2 grandchildren Reed McCain Kanter and Charlie Eliza Kanter of Malibu, CA. 3 nieces Jamie Browning Iverson of Indianola, MS and Brenda Browning Maness of Memphis, TN, Virginia (Sweetie B) Gay of Cleveland, MS, 2 nephews Mike McCain of Cleveland, MS and Joey McCain of Jackson, MS. and 8 grand-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held this Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home 290 Goodman Road East Southaven, MS 662-349-9720. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with service following at 3:00 p.m.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held at the New Cleveland Cemetery on Bayou Road this Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
