Mrs. Catherine Mercier "Beetsie" Ashley, 88, of Cleveland, passed away July 31, 2014 at her home. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014, at First United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life Services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m Saturday, August 2, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Bro. Will Wilkerson.
Mrs. Ashley was born August 5, 1925, to Dewitt Mercier and Francis Blount Mercier. On June 9, 1951, she married Edward Joseph "Billy" Ashley. She graduated from Corinth High School and Ole Miss. She loved and was a very accomplished seamstress. She did everything from smocked dresses to quilts, which we will have to treasure. She loved to garden, antique shop, and collecting rabbits, she also loved to play with her grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Joseph "Billy" Ashley; grandson, Charles Edward Lawrence "Shelby" Lane; parents, Dewitt Mercier and Francis Blount Mercier, siblings, Helen Ezell, Mildred Worsham, and John D. Mercier.
Mrs. Ashley is survived by her children, Nancy McArthur (Stanley) of Collierville, TN, Wallace D. Ashley (Mary Ann) of Cleveland, MS, May Lane (Charles) of Corinth, MS; siblings, George Mercier (Ginny) of Corinth, MS, Margaret "Easie" Wooley of Jackson, MS; grandchildren, Catherine Anderson (Scott) of Franklin, TN, Lauren McArthur of New York, NY, Margaret Isbell (Daniel) of Collierville, TN, Joseph Lane of Corinth, TN, and Russell Lane (Candy) of Corinth, MS; and 5 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful sitters and companions that stayed with Mrs. Ashley, Rebecca Johnson, Freddett "Peaches" Walker, Ella Mae Kline, Brenda Watson, and Grace Community Hospice.
