Catherine "Cathy" Garcia Welty, 69, of Cleveland, MS completed her earthly assignment Friday, October 11, 2013, and embraced her spiritual promotion with dignity and grace.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 on Monday, October 14, 2013, at Our Lady of Victories with a Rosary from 7:00-8:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation. A second visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Our Lady of Victories with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Our Lady of Victories with Father Kent Bowlds officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Cathy was the matriarch of her immediate as well as extended family. She was a devout Catholic and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
She was born March 28, 1944, in Gunnison to Selso and Odelia Garcia. She graduated from Rosedale High School in 1964, and attended Draughon's Business College in Memphis, TN as well as Delta State University. On April 14, 1969, she married J. R. Welty. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rosedale. She retired from Cleveland Nursing and Rehab after 32 years of service as the business manager.
Cathy will be remembered for many wonderful things including her reverence for God and the power of the Cross, her work ethic with a desire to always give her very best on her job, her love and devotion to family, a keen sense of fashion and >She is preceded in death by her parents, Selso and Odelia Garcia; her husband, J.R. Welty; brothers, Blas, Jimmy, Frankie and Charles Garcia; and sister, Juanita Staples.
She leaves behind her daughter, Lisa Blaylock (Kenny) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Bayli, Megan and Alan Blaylock of Cleveland; sisters, Maria DeLahoussaye (John) of Merigold, Beatrice Dunaway of Apex, NC, Eva Garcia of Cleveland, Susan Gray (Mike) of Brandon, and Annie Garcia of Malvina; brothers, Thomas Garcia, Sammy Garcia, and Joe Garcia all of Cleveland, and Johnny Garcia (Julie) of Mesquite,TX; brother-in-law, David Staples of Malvina; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Ferguson, Frank Walker, Joe Lee Bassie, John Raymond Bassie, Murray Lott and Jimmy Russell.
