Charles Story
Mr. Charles Robert "Bill" Story, 78, of Ruleville, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at Ruleville Baptist Church. Celebration of Life services will follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Ruleville Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will follow in Lehrton Cemetery.
Mr. Story was born in Coila, MS, on May 5, 1934, to Edward E. Story, Sr. and Annis Tingle Story. He was a member and deacon of Ruleville Baptist Church . He proudly served our country in the United States Army. On May 28, 1954, he married Ivy JoAnne Chandler in Ruleville, MS. Mr. Story worked as a manager at Delta Oil Company in Ruleville for over 25 years, and then as a Mississippi State Tax Commission field agent for 15 years before retiring in 2005. He stayed involved in the community by serving as a volunteer fireman, a Ruleville city alderman, a member of The Rotary Club, and after retirement he transported patients for Senior Care at North Sunflower Medical Center. He loved to referee football, go frog gigging, and enjoyed early breakfast in Cleveland with his friends every Saturday morning.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward E. Story, Sr. and Annis Tingle; twin sister, Mary Rose Henderson; and brother, Edward Story.
Mr. Story is survived by his spouse of 58 years, JoAnne Chandler Story of Ruleville; daughter, Brenda Jo Vanlandingham of Ruleville; son, Mike Story (Tammy) of Ft. Payne, AL; daughter, Janet Oakes (Bert) of Southaven, MS; grandchildren, Monica Vanlandingham Fuller (Clay) of Cleveland, Lee Vanlandingham of Moorhead, John Michael Story of Murfreesboro, TN, Debra Story of Ft. Payne, AL, Lauren Story of Ft. Payne, AL, Craig Oakes (Carrie) of Olive Branch, and Janet Lee Oakes of Southaven; great-grandchildren, Nora Fuller of Cleveland and Savannah Oakes of Clarksdale; sister, Charlotte McGarr of Texarkana, TX; and brothers, Billy Gregg Story of Southaven and Donald Allen Story of Waynesboro, MS.
Pallbearers will be Mike Story, Bert Oakes, Craig Oakes, John Michael Story, Lee Vanlandingham, and Clay Fuller.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The World Hunger Fund, and/or Ruleville Baptist Church.
