Charles Wendell Haynes, 94, of Merigold, MS, passed away on April 6, 2019, at his home. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow beginning at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. James McNally and Brian Abel officiating. Interment will be in Drew City Cemetery.
Mr. Haynes was born on April 25, 1924, in Lambert, Mississippi to Bennie G. Haynes and Myrle Cooper. He married Melba Sue Miles on May 2, 1942. He entered the Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged in December 1945. Mr. Haynes worked for the State Farm Service for 32 years before retirement. He also farmed for all of his adult life. Mr. Haynes liked to mn graft trees, read, fish, hunt, and farm. He loved to talk about his time in the military service. Mr. Haynes was a proud father and grandfather and always enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Melba Sue Haynes; parents, Bennie and Myrle Cooper; son, James G. Haynes; brothers, Bennie G. Haynes, Joel C. Haynes, and Robert Dale Haynes; sisters, Luna Marie Bland, Mary Helen Pruett, and Doris Rose Jones.
Mr. Haynes is survived by his children, Tommy W. Haynes (Patty) of Cleveland, Dixie H. Dill (Joey) of Cleveland, Betty Sue Haynes of Merigold, and Danny Cooper (Jan) of Philadelphia; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Haynes of Merigold; brothers, Archie Haynes and Johnny Haynes; sisters, Ellen Woods Walker, Nellie Burchfield, Jean Swinford; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Matt Williamson, Ricky Cross, Ricky Woods, Benny Haynes, Barry Haynes, Dale Haynes, Randy Haynes, and Timmy Haynes. Honorary pallbearers will be Tucker Dill, Ryan Moon, Jack Haynes, Tripp Haynes, and Liam Weathers.
