Clara Ann Ivy Oliver, 83, of Nesbitt, MS, went to be with her Lord at her home on November 24, 2018, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. A Celebration of Life Service will follow beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Fish Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Merigold Cemetery.
Clara was born on July 8, 1935. Clara, or Ann as most knew her by, graduated High School from Elaine Arkansas where she was a cheerleader and played basketball. She also played basketball with the Women's Air Force Reserves later in her life. Ann loved watching the WNBA girls basketball on T.V.
Clara worked at the Defense Industrial Plant Equipment Center (DIPEC) in Memphis from 1967 to 1990. She was president of the Union of DIPEC for many years. Her work there enhanced and improved job quality for the women of DIPEC.
Her hobbies included traveling, gardening, flower arranging and baking. Her happy place was in her flower garden. She loved square dancing and danced across the USA with her square dancing group.
Clara was always there for her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James Irving and Johnnie (Clutts) Ivy; late husband, Joe Oliver; son, Joey Oliver; sisters, Virginia Holloway and Kay Childs; brothers, Henry Ivy, Walter Ivy, Derwood Ivy, Joe Ivy, Bobby Ivy; and nephew, James Henry.
Clara is survived by her grandson, whom she raised, Jesse Anthony Oliver; devoted companion of 36 years, Marvin Bonner; sisters, Nettie Alford and Bettie Hammer; and special niece, Cindy Holland.
Pallbearers will be Larry Holloway, Guy Holloway, Lamar Ivy, Eddie Child, Brent Hammer, and Coleman Neil.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Cindy, Nettie and Bettie for their loving care of Clara in the last month of her life. Also to Linda O'Neal, a special friend.
Memorials in honor of Mrs. Clara may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
