Curtis Gene Hood

Curtis Gene Hood, 77 passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2025. Visitation will be Saturday, January 18th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS followed by a family graveside service at Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, MS. 

Curtis was born on November 25,1947 in Marks, MS to Howard Brown Hood and Odelle Little Hood. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1965. He attended Mississippi Delta Community College where is played football for the Trojans. He is in the Hall of Fame at MDCC. He also attended Delta State University. He served in the National Guard for 6 years. 

Curtis began farming with his family and dedicated over 50 years to farming in the Mississippi Delta. Curtis’s very strong farming work ethic was like no other, as you would always find him either on a tractor or riding around on the farm. He greatly enjoyed his last few years farming with his son, Will. 

Curtis was active with the Bolivar County Farm Bureau where he also served as President.

Curtis was married to Linda Gordon Hood for 34 years. Linda took care of him when he got sick until the end.

Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Brown Hood and Odelle Little Hood, and brother Kenneth Brown Hood.

Curtis is survived by Linda Hood; his son Will Hood and his wife Kate of Cleveland, MS; daughters Gena Hood Martens and her husband Steve of Canton, MS and daughter Laney Hood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his brothers, Howard Hood (Linda), Wilton Hood, and Cary Hood (Adrienne), and sister Mary Lou Dilworth (Lyle); three beautiful granddaughters Farrar Kathryn Hood, Suzannah Logan Hood and Emma Lane Martens. 

Pallbearers are Shannon Hood, Jim Ed Brady, Ike Brunetti, Bruce Johnson, Terry Chicorelli, Louis Tackett, Pemble Davis, and Gary Pongetti.
