Mr. Darryl Eugene McCreary, Sr. of Cleveland died in an airplane accident in Leflore County on Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Ray Funeral Home on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 3:00 with visitation being held at 1:30-3:00 before the service. Burial will be at Beulah Cemetery at Beulah, MS. Reverend Clarence Edwards of Boyle, MS will officiate.
Mr. McCreary was born in Rosedale, MS on August 23, 1950, to Eugene Marion McCreary and Mildred Stubbs McCreary. He married Susan Adele Sims in Cleveland on June 8, 1969.
Mr. McCreary was educated in the Rosedale Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1968. He prided himself in being one of the five musketeers. They were five classmates that started first grade together and graduated together. He attended Mississippi Delta Community College, Delta State University and completed his commercial aviation training at the Mississippi School of Aviation in Jackson. He owned and operated McCreary Flying Service, Inc. in Rosedale for 25 years. He was a currently a pilot for Sturdivant Flying Service at Glendora, MS, flying his 37th season with 28,000 flying hours. Flying was his passion and it was not like a job to him. After hunting season, he was always ready to be back in the sky.
Mr. McCreary loved to hunt as well as fish. He loved his cabin "Someday." He enjoyed genealogy, history and love to hear stories from the World War II veterans of their times in the War. He loved his family, especially his grand children with three of them being born in March in one week.
He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Marion McCreary, his grandparents, Lavonia Baynes McCreary England, Frank England, Arthur McCreary, Roy Stubbs and Dora Sanders Stubbs.
Mr. McCreary is survived by his wife, Susan Sims McCreary of Cleveland, daughter Bobbie Jo McCreary Simpson (Colllier), of Madison, MS, son Darryl Eugene McCreary, II (Brittany), of Cleveland, his mother Mildred Stubbs McCreary of Cleveland, brothers, Myron Martin, Jr.(Linda) of Vicksburg, MS, Jeffrey McCreary (Jeanne) of Cleveland, sisters, Nan McCreary Gilbert (Howard) of Indianola, MS, Maria McCreary Wooten (Robby) of West Point, MS, and Melody McCreary Stafford (Larry) of West Point, MS. Grandchildren, the love of his life, Cas Simpson, Yerger Simpson, Taft Simpson, Kyzer Simpson, all of Madison, MS and Mary Grantham McCreary of Cleveland. He also leaves his heart, Delta, his true and constant companion and Maggie his fearless watchdog.
Pallbearers are Wayne Grant, Buddy McCreary, Philip Adams, Robert Thomas, C. T. Danna, Jimmie Russell, Ray Travis, P. B. Robinson, Honorary Pallbearers are Nathaniel Love (Bear), Cliff Burd and Allen Long and Joseph Fioranelli.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
