Deborah Prewitt Braswell age 71 of Whittier, N.C. passed away at her home January 5,2024. Deborah was born in Cleveland, MS on May 22, 1952, to Dois and Ree Clanton Prewitt. As a teen her family moved to the Great Smokey Mountains.
She was employed at Above & Beyond Home Furnishings as the Controller. Deborah attended Cleveland High School where she received the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award and for her senior year she attended Sylva-Webster High School. She graduated from Delta State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, graduated Suma Cum Laud with an associate degree in accounting from Southwestern Community College and received a business administrators’ degree at Western Carolina University. Deborah was a member of the National Honor Society and Who’s Who.
She was a faithful member at Cherokee Church of Christ.Deborah enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great granddaughters.
In addition to her late parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Mark and Michael Prewitt.
Survivors include her loving son, Justin Braswell (Sonia) of Cleveland, MS, daughter/friend Hope Braswell (Ken Burke) of Whittier, NC, grandchildren, Logan Braswell (MJ) of Whittier, NC, Mikayla Wilson (Cody) of Nashville, TN, Ansleigh Braswell (Preston Warrington) of Cleveland, MS, Brianna Britt, Mallie Britt also of Cleveland, MS, and Brittany Knotts (Devin) of Whittier, NC, great granddaughters Jayana Braswell and Delta Blu Braswell both of Whittier, NC and Sister Felecia Prewitt of Hudson, NC.
Also survived by longtime friend of over 30 years, Mary Bryson of Maggie Valley, NC, and lifelong friend Debbie “Birdlegs” Maloney of Cleveland, MS.
Deborah was an Ole Miss fan, much to the dismay of her Mississippi State loving daughter.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott and Brad Washington, Ken, Chip and Mark Hobart and Jeffery Shivers.
Carl Prewitt will be officiating the services which will be held in Cleveland, MS at Rays Funeral Home on January 20,2024 with visitation at 10:00 am and services at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at Delta Heights Cemetery, in Cleveland, MS.
A celebration of life will be held at the Cherokee Church of Christ at a later date.
