Donald Elwin Dean, 87, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Cleveland Personal Care. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, with Bro. Steve Huber officiating. Interment will follow in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Dean was born August 2, 1926, in Webster County to Felix Henry Dean and Mary Ozell Deborah Singleton Dean. On June 30, 1946, he married Thelma Grace Cade. He proudly served our country in the Navy during WWII on a destroyer in Tokyo Bay. He fought numerous battles and his destroyer served as an escort for the USS Missouri. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing leatherwork as well.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
Mr. Dean is survived by his wife, Thelma Grace "Blondie" Dean of Cleveland, MS; children, Donald E. Dean, Jr. (Sandra) of Richmond, TX, Patricia Dean Ray (David) of Gatlinburg, TN, Scott Dean (Nan) of McCarley, MS, and Cynthia Dean Weeks (Jimmy) of Cleveland; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Felix Dean (Rowenna) of Shaw, MS, and Artis Dean (Wanda) of AR; sister, Aniece Harris (Dickie) of Clarksdale; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Dean, Carson Childers, Chase Fuller, Todd Fuller, Delbert Dean, Scott Dean, Totten Foster, and Wheeler Bruster.
In memory of Mr. Dean, donations may be made to the Baptist Children's Village in Philadelphia or to Immanuel Baptist Church of Cleveland.
