Donald Paul "D.P." McMurry, 68, of Boyle, MS passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015, surrounded by loving family and friends. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of life services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Braswell. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery. Donald was born on October 14, 1947, in Shaw, MS to James and Hazel Mixon McMurry. He was a 1968 graduate of Shaw High School. He joined and proudly served our country in the Strategic Air Command of the US Air Force from 1968 to 1972. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Patricia "Patty" Morgan, and they recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. After leaving the Air Force, he and his wife moved back to Cleveland and he went to work for the City of Cleveland.
He worked as their shop supervisor and remained there until his retirement in 2013. Donald could do it all and was always willing to give a helping hand to friends and family. He was a top notch mechanic, and there was not an engine that he could not repair or rebuild. He loved everything about the outdoors, from solitary walks in the woods to camping, hunting and fishing with his sons and grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel McMurry; and his sister, Linda McMurry Edenfield. He is survived by his wife, Patty McMurry of Boyle; sons, Ryan McMurry of Boyle and Ty McMurry of Cordova, TN; brother, Tommy McMurry (Mary Lynn) of Shaw; sisters, Ellen Sellers (Lewis) of Shaw, Faye Whatley (Marion) of Merigold, and Kathy Denman (Buck) of Byhalia; grandson, Morgan Scott McMurry; mother-in-law, Nell Morgan of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Vicki Brooke of Cleveland; and brother-in-law, Scottie Morgan (Vickie) of Searcy, AR; and a host of nieces and nephews.
