Dorothy "Dot" Coleman Powers, 91, of Cleveland, MS, passed away, Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Ray Funeral Home, Thursday, March 15, 2012. Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Ray Funeral Home at 11:00 am, with Rev. John Thomas officiating. Interment service will follow services in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Powers was born July 3, 1920 in Doddsville, MS to James Thomas Coleman and Lula Love. She graduated from Ruleville High School and Sunflower Junior College. She married Robert Wilson "Sing" Powers. They lived in Greenville, MS and she came to Cleveland in 1962. Mrs. Powers was a member of the First United Methodist Church and worked as a bookkeeper for Bill Boswell and Jimmy Sanders Co. After retiring from Jimmy Sanders Co., she worked for Rayner Farms.
She is survived by her children; Lillian "Lil" Powers Gant (Donald) of Merigold, MS and Robert Coleman Powers of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Mike Gant (Michelle), Scott Gant (Leigh-Anne), Cindy Gant Mounce (Michael); great-grandchildren, Megan Gant, Anna Scott Gant, Carsley Gant, Brett Gant and Emily Mounce.
Mrs. Powers is preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas and Lula Love Coleman; and five brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Scott Gant, Mike Gant, Michael Mounce, Bobby Douglas, Fletcher Powers and Millard "Buddy" Powers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Morrison Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund.
