E. Wayne Pittman

Mr. E. Wayne Pittman, 72, of Hernando, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Baptist Desoto Hospital. Born March 24, 1942 in Boyle, MS. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Clarence Eli and Mary Lee; and his sister Ethel Lee Pittman Powers. Mr. Pittman leaves his brother, James Clarence Pittman of Vicksburg, MS; sister Mary Lois Pittman Cruse of Cleveland, MS; daughters, Mary Margaret Pittman Graves (Wayne) of Laurel, MS and Beth Pittman Hutton (Mark) of Memphis, TN; sons, Steven Pittman (Camille) of Hernando, MS and Stirling Pittman (Deb) of Oxford, MS. In addition, Wayne leaves the lights of his life, his nine grandchildren; Lauren Elizabeth Hutton, William Andrew Graves, Meghan Carter Hutton, Sara Ashlee Graves, Amelia Katherine Pittman, Meriwether Evans Pittman, Eloise Camille Pittman, Bryars Margaret Pittman, and Vincent Stirling Pittman and two step-granddaughters, Mallorie Hutton Caradine and Rachel Hutton Britton and one great granddaughter, Emma Shea Britton. Mr. Pittman graduated from Cleveland High School and attended Mississippi State University on a football scholarship. He worked professionally in the insurance business for his entire adult life. As a young man, he went to Mt. Shasta to fight wildfires. The experience had a profound influence on him as he was always on the ready to help others be it pulling out a car stuck in ice or stopping to help firefighters at a fire. A true "do it yourself" person, he was as likely to change a pair of brake shoes or lay a brick walkway, as he was to sew a button on a pair of pants. Mr. Pittman enjoyed boating with his family, mostly at Moon Lake where they made many lasting memories. Mr. Pittman also enjoyed grilling long-boned sirloin steaks having learned from Doe Signa of Doe's in Greenville (tasting just as good, maybe better!). He also loved cooking BBQ having travelled to Ireland with the late Silky Sullivan as a "BBQ Ambassador"!
Despite his long history of heart trouble, he never complained. He was quick with a smile and was nicknamed "Sun" for the way his smile would light up a room. Above all, Mr. Pittman loved his children, grandchildren and Mississippi State Football.
