Edith Mitchell Boswell
Edith Mitchell Boswell, born November 5, 1917, in Pace, Mississippi, died quietly, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Indywood Estates in Cleveland after a long illness.
Devoted to her family, church and community, Edith was married 57 years to the late William Sanford Boswell, Sr. She attended Delta State on a music scholarship and continued to share her vocal and piano skills throughout her life. She was a Life Member and former treasurer of Cleveland Junior Auxiliary and a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. An excellent cook, she shared her famous pecan pies and potato soup with all, and was, according to her brother Harold, "always the life of the party."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zack Ruff and Zadie Tucker Mitchell; her beloved husband, William S. Boswell Sr.; and nine siblings: brothers Hollis, Quinton, Hugh, Ray, Charlie, and David Mitchell, and sisters Kathleen Skelton, Lois Cox and Mary Elizabeth Walker. She is survived by her children: William S. Boswell, Jr. (Nancy) of Amory, Beth B. Jacks (Gerald) of Cleveland, Kathy B. Nichols (Tom) of Collierville, Tenn., and Melanie B. Wadlington (Warner) of Sledge. She is also survived by her brother, Harold H. Mitchell, her sister, Pat M. Savage, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Also, surviving are adored grandchildren: Stacey B. Lampkin (Billy), Katherine Boswell, Nan B. Thompson (Andy), Dorothy Boswell, Emily J. Mosley (Don), Bethany J. Dowdy (Charles), Will H. Jacks (Jamie), Thomas G. Jacks (Katie), Melanie N. Beckham (John), Matthew T. Nichols, John Boswell Nichols (Sage), Mary Clay W. Morgan (Matt), William B. Wadlington (Anna), James W. Wadlington (Carrie), and 18 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 2:00 at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Cleveland, and the family will receive friends in the St. Luke Fellowship Hall at 1:00 prior to the service. Burial will follow services in Delta Heights Cemetery.
Rev. Dixie Holder-Cummings will officiate. Ray Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family deeply appreciates the dedicated care given to Edith during her residency at Indywood Estates and the outpouring of love by employees there and her hospice caregivers.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1227 Deering Street, Cleveland, Ms 38732, or to a favorite charity.
