Eileen Elizabeth Murray, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, in Maryville, TN, at the age of 77. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. Graveside Service will immediately follow at North Cleveland Cemetery.
Eileen was born in Greenwood, MS to John and Virginia Murray on January 19, 1947. She moved to Cleveland at two weeks of age.
She started her education at the Hill Demonstration School, Delta State Teacher's College through the 4th grade. The Hill Dem School was shut down and she along with all of her classmates transferred to Pearman Elementary. Eileen finished school in 1965 at Cleveland High School. She continued her education at Delta State College with an undergraduate degree in art education followed by a graduate degree in Reading and Elementary Education. With a master's degree in hand, Eileen made a lasting impact on countless students throughout her years of teaching. She taught school for 15 years in the following cities: Cleveland, Benoit, Greenwood, and McComb. Her passion for education and unwavering dedication to her students will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Eileen was a member of the following clubs: EPHFIC Woman's Club, Beta Sigma Phi International Women's Sorority, and Baptist Young Women. She served as Historian for EPHFIC, President, Woman of the Year, and Girl of the Year for Beta Sigma Phi. Eileen was included in Outstanding Young Women of America in 1974. She also sang in the choirs at First Baptist in Cleveland, Greenwood, Greenville, and McComb. She was a member of First Baptist Orlando and on the Leadership Team for the Women of JoyE-Life there. Eileen was instrumental in keeping graduates and friends of CHS informed about happenings in her hometown of Cleveland, MS through a newsletter via e-mail. She was very active in bringing her class together every 5 years for a class reunion.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Murray.
Eileen is survived by her sons, Leslie David and James Michael Marquis.
