Elizabeth Smith Hodges, 86, of Sunflower, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at South Sunflower Hospital in Indianola. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Sunflower Baptist Church with Bro. Allen
Robison and Bro. Gene Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Linn Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Philadelphia, MS on April 30, 1926. On September 9, 1946, she married Ellis Clifton Hodges in Indianola, MS. She worked for many years preparing food for the children in the local school cafeteria. Mrs. Hodges loved quilting and did beautiful work. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning with her husband. She was a devout believer and spent much of her time reading her Bible from cover to cover. She will always be remembered for keeping up with her friends, church, and family and for never forgetting a birthday or special occasion.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellis Clifton Hodges; son, Jerry Glenn Hodges; and great-granddaughter, McKenzie Skylar Hodges.
She is survived by her sons, Ellis Earl Hodges, Sr. (Catherine) of Tutwiler, Charles Erwin Hodges of Minden, LA, and Wayne S. Hodges (Kathy) of Olive Branch; daughters, Patsy Jones (Jerry) of Indianola, and Judy Gail Labella (Mike) of New Albany; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Sam Smith (Ora) of Arlington, TX; and sister, Ruthie Butler of Terry, MS.
Pallbearers will be Chris Hodges, Earl Hodges, Jr., Steven Dunlap, David Laster, Chip Dunlap, Michael Hall, Brent Kennamore, Philip Hodges, and Clifton Hodges.
In memory of Mrs. Hodges, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
