Emma West

Emma Francis Thompson West
Emma Francis Thompson West, age 85, passed away peacefully in Nashville, TN, after a brief illness, on October 22, 2013.
Mrs. West was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Julian
C. West, and by sister Shirley Thompson Ballard.
Emma Frances was born on July 20, 1928, in Charleston, Mississippi. Her
parents were James Hubert Thompson and Florence Hames Thompson. For more of
her life she lived in Cleveland, Mississippi, where she was baptized in the
First Baptist Church and also attended First Methodist Church. She worked
with her father and husband in their fertilizer and construction businesses
and also managed a convenience store. She had many friends in the Delta
region. She and her husband were keys members of the Merigold Hunt Club,
and one of her great joys was time spent in nature and with animals.
She is survived by her brother, J. William Thompson, and his wife Fay; by
nephews Glenn Dickard, Tom Ballard, Hubert Thompson, Paul W. Thompson, and
Boyd Thompson; and by nieces Susan Dickard and Tracy Ballard-Vogel.
Last year she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to be closer to her brother,
and lived at the Meadows: a Lakeshore Senior Community, where she soon
became a favorite because of her quick mind, keen sense of humor, and
spunk.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Meadows in Nashville
on Tuesday, November 12th at 2:30pm. A service will also be held at the
First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Mississippi on Saturday, November 9th at
2pm. Friends of Mrs. West and the family are welcomed to attend either
service. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to
organizations that support wildlife management and conservation.
