Emmitt Russell

Mr. Emmitt Russell, 81, of Merigold, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015, at his home. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Memorial services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Mr. Russell was born on November 2, 1933, in Tallahatchie County, MS, to Jessie Calvin Russell and Mae Bell Taylor Russell. On September 2, 1951, he married Shirley Arbuckle in Charleston, MS. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a family man and a farmer who worked hard in the field.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Calvin Russell and Mae Bell Taylor Russell; and daughters, Shirley Faye Akridge and Lil Hopkins. He passed away along with his son, Emmett Ray Russell. Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Shirley Arbuckle Russell of Merigold; daughters, Sally Williams (Mike) of Southaven, MS and Dorothy R. Warren (Robert K.) of Merigold; seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and brother, Clarence Russell (Mildred) of Pelahatchie,MS. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Weeks, Jeremy Williams, Michael Williams, and Dallas Lane. In memory of Mr. Russell, donations may be made to the Bolivar County Sherriff's Office.
