Estelle Henderson Strawbridge, 94, passed away peacefully in her home in Gluckstadt, Mississippi on August 25, 2022. A graveside service with family and friends is planned at Roundaway Baptist Church Cemetery on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at 2PM. Memorials may be made to Roundaway Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
On October 29, 1927, Estelle and her twin were born in Schlater, Mississippi to Bonnie Sudduth Henderson and James Calvin Henderson during the Mississippi Delta Flood. She and her family lived in the delta where Estelle attended school in Cleveland, Skene, Leland, and Shaw during the years of the Great Depression. While working as a waitress at a bus stop café in Shaw, the White Palace, she met Marvin Dewitt Strawbridge as he returned from military service. They were married on July 12, 1946, shortly after World War II.
Estelle worked at the Sewing Factory in Shaw and at Baxter Laboratories in Cleveland. She loved Jesus and served Him at Shaw, Roundaway, Interstate, and Pinelake Baptist Churches.
Estelle loved to have family and friends visit in her home. Sometimes they shelled peas and snapped green beans from her garden and shared a southern cooked meal. Other times, she cut and styled her friends’ hair or watched their children. An excellent seamstress, Estelle made clothes for herself and her children, including the wedding and bridesmaid dresses for her daughters and granddaughter.
After the loss of her husband, Estelle moved to Gluckstadt to be near family. In 1996, she traveled to the Ukraine as part of a missionary team and shared the gospel of Jesus. At home, Estelle enjoyed getting together with friends and playing dominos while sharing lunch and good times. She and her friends also enjoyed traveling together.
The family wishes to acknowledge Accent Care of Flowood and Tywanda Reynolds for their loving care of Estelle during her illness.
The remaining family are her sister, Mavis Henderson Emerson, and brother, Russell Henderson; daughters, Lynda Robinson (Ken), and Carolyn Kirk; grandchildren, Kim Robinson Oakes (Arden), Dewitt Robinson (Lou Anna Boutwell), Rachel Kirk Anderson (Bill), and Rebecka Kirk Hakel (Brian); great grandchildren, Dani Oakes, Will Oakes, Chance Robinson, Travis Anderson, Collin Anderson, Vera Hakel, and Vance Hakel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
