Esther Kemp

Esther Ola Cooper Kemp went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 15th, 2014 at age 97. We celebrate her home-going; she will be missed greatly by family and friends.
Originally from Union County, Tennessee, Esther grew up in the Litton community. She and Victor Kemp were united in holy matrimony March 7th, 1934 and remained together until Victor's death in 1994, one week short of their 60th anniversary. They provided a model for Christian living and devoted marriage.
For those who knew her well, her dry wit, quiet strength, and deep faith in Jesus Christ were her hallmarks. Esther worked as a nurse at the Old Cleveland Hospital, the new Bolivar County Hospital, and the medical practice of Drs. Robert and Eugene Tibbs. Generations of Delta children received shots from her. She went on her first medical missionary trip to Honduras when she was 67 and again twice more in following years.
She was famous for her homemade yeast rolls, pecan and chocolate pies, and handmade quilts; all were excellent. She delighted in baking for the church bake-sale well into her 70's; her pecan pies were often the first to go.
After living in Cleveland for more than 50 years, she moved to Eagle Lake, MS to live with Gwen and Paul Bouler in 2000. She was blessed with their care and love for 14 years.
She is survived by 4 children: Clara (Winfred) Grimes of Copperas Cove, TX; Faith Gibson of Tucson, AZ; Gwen (Paul) Bouler, Vicksburg, MS; and Don (Karon) Kemp, Suwanee, GA; 8 Grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 9 great, great grandchildren, 1 great, great, great grandchild and friends from all walks of life.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 21st 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will immediately follow Saturday, June 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. Interment will be at Delta Heights Memorial Gardens.
