Evelyn Browning

Mrs. Evelyn McCain Browning, 84, of Shelby, MS passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 in North Cleveland Cemetery with Dr. E. Allen Bailey officiating. A visitation will be held prior to services from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Ray Funeral Home.
Mrs. Browning was born February 10, 1927 to Lexie and Willie McCain. She grew up in Cleveland, MS and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1945 where she was a star basketball player. In Evelyn's earlier years she worked as a librarian at the Shelby Public Library and was the Secretary for the First Baptist Church in Shelby. Later she worked as a Medicare clerk for the Warrington Clinic and Hollingsworth Clinic. Evelyn retired at 62 years of age from Hollingsworth Clinic.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Browning and her brother, Joe McCain.
She leaves 2 daughters, Brenda Maness of Bartlett, TN and Jamie Iverson (Rodney) of Indianola, MS; one sister, Carolyn McCain Bullock of Southaven, MS; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
