Foster F. Wilkinson, 86, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Starnes officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Wilkinson was born June 11, 1927, to Thomas Lamar Wilkinson and Evie Quackenbush Wilkinson. He proudly served our country as Gunnery Sergeant in the United State Army of occupation post WWII. On December 21, 1957, he married Norma Sullivan in Pascagoula, MS and they moved to Cleveland in 1960.
He received his undergraduate degree from The University of Mississippi and continued his education by obtaining his Doctorate of Education from Northern Colorado University. He was a professor of education for 40 years; 30 of which was spent at Delta State University. He was a member of a fellowship that went to Soviet Union during the Cold war to study educational methodologies, and was Tri-University Fellowship at the University of Washington 1968-1969. Mr. Wilkinson was an active participant in Cleveland Little Theater, and elder and charter member at Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was an avid reader and especially of TRUE Spy Stories, and he loved to study different languages.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Will Wilkinson, James Wilkinson, and Robert Wilkinson; and sister, Evelyn Prickett.
Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma S. Wilkinson of Cleveland; sons, Stephen Wilkinson (Suzanne) of Troy, NC and Bradley Wilkinson (Brandy) of West Monroe, LA; daughter, Rebecca Wilkinson of Byram, MS; grandchildren, Josh Wilkinson (Bethany) of Plano, TX, Erin Nainton (Matt) of Greenville, SC, Caleb Wilkinson of Wuhan, China, Dylan Wilkinson of West Monroe, LA, and Miranda Wilkinson of West Monroe, LA; great grandchildren, Truett Bainton and Cecelia Bainton both of Greenville, SC; and brothers, Thomas Lamar Wilkinson of Martinique, CA and Ben Wilkinson (Mary Ruth) of Decatur, GA.
Pallbearers will be Mark Humphreys, Tommy Thomas, Dylan Wilkinson, Josh Wilkinson, Laurence Mellen, and Patrick Brower. Honorary pallbearers will be Boo Ferris, Deb Gee, Tommy Worthy and Gene Godwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, St. Dominic Hospital, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
