Frances Jane Thompson, 90, of Cleveland, formerly of Memphis, beloved sister and aunt passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 1:00 to 1:30 Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2:00 Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Drew City Cemetery with Rev. Bob Hill officiating. She was born in Sunflower County, MS and graduated from Drew High School in 1942. After earning a B.S. degree in Home economics from M.S.C.W., she taught school for two years in Mississippi She graduated from Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY, in 1950 with a M.A. Degree in Religious Education. She moved to Newport, KY where she worked for 9 years at a Church Goodwill Center teaching children. She then worked at the Defense Department in Memphis for 16 years retiring in 1993. After retirement, she volunteered at the Church Health Center for a number of years. She was a long time member of McLean Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Pearle Thompson; her brother, Marcus A. Thompson (Delma); and her sister, Emma McCain (Garland. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Thompson; eight nieces and nephews, Kay Vest (John) of Siloam Springs, AR, Mike Thompson (Gerri) of Merigold, MS, Bill Thompson (Cissy) of Merigold, MS, Richard Thompson (Teresa) of Cleveland, Janie Sperbeck (Dan) of Long Beach, MS, Paula Lofton (Mike) of Boyle, MS, Cynthia Phillips (Giles) of Columbia, SC, and Robin McCain of San Francisco, CA; and a host of great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Adam Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Jason Cotton, Chris Bastari, and Brent Brown. In memory of Ms. Thompson, donations may be made to McLean Baptist Church 815 N. McLean Memphis, TN 38107.
