George Truette Turner

George Truette Turner, better known as "Mr. George", 96, of Cleveland, MS passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 surrounded by family at his home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with the services beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland. Interment will follow at the New Cleveland Cemetery on North Bayou Road in Cleveland.
George T. Turner was born on February 25, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. John William Turner, Sr. in Houlka, MS. He married Mary Fullen Turner on September 4, 1993 in Cleveland, MS. Mr. George retired in the late 1970's after twenty years of service with Texas Gas. He became an accomplished self-taught artist, writer, and a well-known Master Engraver. Mr. George was a part of the Greatest Generation who landed on Normandy and served in World War II at the same time as his four brothers did. He received a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, a Combat Infantry Badge, the French Croix-de-Guerre (Cross of War), and a designated French Combat Citation personally from the French Consulant in 2002 for his service at Normandy. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of  Purple Heart USA. Mr. George was a member of the Bolivar Church of Christ. He loved the Lord, his family and friends and his Country.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John William Turner, Sr. and Mary Viola Tutor Turner, son, Monroe D. Fullen; brothers: John W. Turner, Jr., Samuel  J. Turner, Stephen H. Turner, Joe M. Turner, sisters, Mary Viola Courtney and Virginia Whatley; great-granddaughter, Kate Davis, and his first wife of thirty-eight years, Mabel B. Turner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Mary Fullen Turner, daughters: Candy F. Davis (Larry) of Shaw, MS, Joy F. Hardin (Andy) of Sharpsburg, GA, son, Bruce Fullen of Shaw, MS, his seven grandchildren: Cassie Foster, Judd Davis, Courtney Davis, Austin Davis, Jana Nicholson, Jake Fullen, and Max Hardin, eleven great- grandchildren, sister, Janie Sue Pleasant (Red) of Florence, MS, special nephew, Mark Kimbell (Misha), and many other nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers will be Chris Giger, Charles Gorman, Chad Givens, Keith Hewitt, Theatis Flakes, and Stephen Hugley. The honorary pallbearers will be the Tuesday Night Pickers,  the Purple Heart Bearers,  David and Wesley Sullivan, Gene Bishop, Dr. David Walt, and John Sauerweine.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project at P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or a charity of your choice.
