Georgia Lea Ballard went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 23, 2021 in Greenville, MS. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service following at 12 p.m. Interment will be at Shaw Cemetery. Georgia was born on February 12, 1936 in Pomona, California to George Jackson and Vivan Stancliff Jackson. She graduated from Chaffey High School and went on to receive a masters degree in education from San Diego State University. She married Herbert Ballard in 1967. She taught school for several years in California and before her children were born, she taught for two years in Japan. Once she moved back to the United States, she taught for over 50 years. When she made Shaw, MS her home, she served as an Alderman. She was on the Board of Trustees for the Library of Bolivar County for over 15 years. She was on the board for the Consolidated School District. Georgia was an avid reader who loved to exercise and fish, and she also had a green thumb. Most importantly, she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Paul Ballard, and her sister, Phyllius Carrari. She is survived by her children, Paul Ballard (Merla) of Pensacola, FL and David (Shannon) Ballard of Smyrna, TN; grandchildren, Regan Leigh Ballard of Smyrna, TN and Makayla Oakley (Hunter) of Georgia; nieces, Linda Kopcrak and Tina Carrari; and nephew, Ronald Carrari. Pallbearers will be Danny Lofton, Everett Stanton, Robert Sanders, and Timmy Connici, John Capocaccia, and Jeffrey Capocaccia.
