Grace Conger

Grace Nemitz Conger, 89, died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at University Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2022, in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, MS.

She was born September 1, 1932, in Clarksdale, MS to Nancy Fletcher Nemitz and Clarence Nemitz. Grace went to Hill Demostration School and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1950. She went to Delta State Teachers College and then to the University of Mississippi where she graduated in 1954. Grace was a member of Phi Mu fraternity while at Ole Miss and later was a sponsor of Phi Mu at Delta State University. She began her teaching career in Shaw, MS where she taught for one year prior to marrying Ralph D. "Buddy" Conger on August 20, 1955 at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. They lived out from Malvina where Buddy farmed. Grace had two sons, Ralph D. Conger, Jr. and John C. Conger. She returned to teaching after the birth of her children and taught in Rosedale for 30 years. After retirement she substituted at Bayou Academy and then taught there for 6 years. Grace loved teaching and said she would set her dolls up as a child and teach them. She was an excellent cook, avid bridge player, a wonderful teacher, an amazing mother, and a joy to be around. Grace was a member of the First United Methodist Church which she loved dearly. She was proud of the fact that she only wore reading glasses and had all of her own teeth.

She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Ralph D. "Buddy" Conger, parents, Nancy and Clarence Nemitz, and brother, Clarence C. Nemitz Jr.

Grace is survived by her sons, Don and John, her granddaughter, Ashley Conger, her great-granddaughter, Lexi Grace Conger, her sister, Ann Steen (Jim), and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
