Harold Johnson

Mr. Harold Baskin Johnson, 94, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. in New Cleveland Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Breland officiating.
Mr. Johnson was born in Vaiden, MS on June 8, 1918, to Mr. Samuel Walter "Plunkett" Johnson and Bennie Mae Rogers Johnson. He was a WWII Veteran and served our country as a Marine from 1938-1945. On October 20, 1971, he married Gladys Onita Lishman. He was a resident of San Diego, CA, and had been employed with ROHR Aircraft in the Shipping Department for 30 years before retiring in 1978 and moving to Cleveland in January of 1979. After his retirement, he owned his own landscaping business and kept several horses in Boyle, MS. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Walter "Plunkett" Johnson and Bennie Mae Rogers Johnson and his wife, Gladys Lishman Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his step-daughter, Jo Nita Self of Knoxville, TN; step-grandson, Joseph Michael Self (Rebecca Randolph) of Verona, NJ; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Self Cooper (Darrell) of Strawberry Plains, TN; and step-great-grandson, Noah Christopher Cooper of Strawberry Plains, TN.
The Family would like to thank his closest friends who were like family to him, Gloria Patridge and family, Carol Boone, and Sally and Judge Al Smith.
