Harrison Dilly, 85, of Cleveland passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at his home in Cleveland, MS. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of life services will be Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 3:00p.m. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery. The family would like to invite friends to join them for a meal at the American Legion, 409 South Street, Cleveland, MS immediately following services.
Mr. Dilly was born May 20, 1927 to Joe Dilley and Glendora Hunt. He married Lyndell Fair Switzer on May 12, 1957 in Cleveland, MS. He served in the Army and Marine Corp in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a decorated war veteran and had received the Purple Heart, Air Medal (6th Awd), Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (5th Awd), Armed Forces Expenditionary Medal (Cuba), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Awd), Rvn AF Mertuc Gallantry Cross with Palm & Frame, Vietnam Service Medal (w/4*), Vietnam Campaign Medal (Vietnam), Combat Air Crew Insignia and Pistol Sharpshooter badge. He retired after 20 years of service. He enjoyed going camping, fishing and gardening. He flew USO entertainers to entertain the troops.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Dilley and Glendora Hunt Dilly Hughes; brothers, O.J. Dilley and George Dilley; and sister, Estella McVay, Grace White, Rose Bruce and Frances Schultes.
Mr. Dilly is survived by his wife, Lyndell Fair Switzer Dilly of Cleveland, MS; children, Cindy Dilly Weeks (Todd) of Greenville, MS, Keith Dilly (Marce) of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Jenny and Tyler Weeks of Greenville, MS, Brian Dilly (Deidre), Mary Lauren Dilly, Trey Dilly all of Brandon, MS; great grandchildren, Deryk Dilly of Brandon, MS; sisters, Peggy Bryant (Raymond) of Benton, Ark, Bertha Seals (Ray) of Warren, Tx, Inez Griffis of Broussard, LA, Mary Williams of Montrose, Ark; Aunt, Elizabeth Bingham of Monroe, LA; brothers, Woodrow Dilley (Linda) of Broussard, LA, A.J. Dilley (Marina) of Diamond Head, MS.
Pallbearers will be Robert Earl Stewart, Jeff Stewart, Billy Boswell, Eddie Daves, Billy Fly, Don Cabrol, Woodrow Dilley and A.J. Dilley. Honorary Pallbearers will be the American Legion Post 165, VFW Post 4800 and Purple Heart 806.
