Harvey York

Mr. Harvey J. York, 79, of Gunnison, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013, at his home. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home with Bro. Butch Cummins and Bro. Allen Robison officiating. Interment will be in Shelby Cemetery.
Mr. York was born in Waxhaw on January 20, 1934 to Harvey and Bertha Lee Rico York. On February 19, 1953, he married Lorena Morin at the Rosedale Justice of Peace. He worked for 23 years as a cabinet maker for AMPCO, and after that he worked many years on a catfish farm. He was a member of Gunnison Baptist Church, and He loved hunting, fishing, and woodwork. He could make just about anything.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Bertha Lee York; son, Jimmy Lee York; and brother, Tommy A. York.
Mr. York is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorena M. York of Gunnison; son, Larry York of Gunnison; grandchildren, Daphne McMurry (Wesley) of Gunnison and Travis York of Gonzales, LA; great-grandchildren, Trenyde McMurry, Dason McMurry, and Weston McMurry all of Gunnison; special daughter, Faye York of Gunnison; sisters, Phyllis Gordon of Cleveland and Omagee Ferrell (Jerry) of Nesbit; brothers, Billy York (Dorothy) of Mathiston and Carl York (Patricia) of Perthshire; and sister-in-law, Dealie York of Cleveland.
Pallbearers will be Billy Bassie, John Conger, Jimmy Stokes, Jeff Boyd, Floyd Sander, and T. Travis.Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Wills, Robbie Burk and Jimmy Hill.
