Helen Carroll Sultan, 93, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Darian Duckworth and Rev. Dianne Elliott officiating. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Sultan was born June 27, 1920, to Leslie Burns Carroll and Belle Ganetie Switzer Carroll in Arkansas. She married Henry Edward Sultan in Greenville, MS on October 12, 1939. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of United Methodist Women, Helping Hands volunteer, and a member of Fairfield Garden Club. She loved gardening, especially growing daylilies; She was even know as the daylily Queen. She loved her family and was the matriarch and hub around which the family gathered. Her favorite was when she was called Wonder Gram by her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Burns Carroll and Belle Ganetie Switzer Carroll; and husband, Henry Edward Sultan.
Mrs. Sultan is survived by her daughters, Gerry Sultan of Cleveland and Sharon Baessler of Brandon; son, Ed Sultan (Kate) of Denver, CO; sisters, Juanita Flemmons of Welch, LA, Marty Miller of Madison, MS, Elsie Carroll of Cleveland; granddaughters, Holly Fava (AL) of Collierville, TN; grandsons, Chet Hollingsworth (Brandi) of Slidell, LA, Wes Baessler of Knoxville,TN; Honorary granddaughters, Allison Carter of Brandon ,MS, Laura Marks of Chicago, IL; great-grandsons, Garrett and Grey Hollingsworth of Slidell, La; Dominic Fava and Anthony Fava of Collierville, TN; and many well-loved nieces, nephews and friends.
