Homer was born on October 13, 1951, in Clarksdale-Drew, Mississippi, to Homer and Erma Ballard Sr. He lived a life filled with commitment and great love for his family and friends. He prioritized his life in this order. The first priority in his life was to the Lord. He depended on the Lord for guidance and wisdom in all aspects. His second priority was for his wife of 25 years whom he loved and cherished. His only regret is that they were not joined together by God earlier in their lives to enjoy each other’s love. Next was his mother and father whom he loved dearly throughout his life and always cared for their needs, most of all love. He loved his son David Ballard. Through the union of holy matrimony he was blessed with a second son, William Patrick Podraza.
Homer attended Cleveland High School, graduating in 1969, where he not only excelled academically but also showcased his talents in various activities, including baseball, football and playing in the band. His passion for education led him to become a teacher at Cleveland High School, where he devoted himself to shaping young minds. In addition to his teaching career, Homer also engaged in sales, embodying a strong work ethic that was admired by many.
Above all, Homer was a hard-working and loving husband, father, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He embraced the role of a family man with pride, leaving behind his loving wife, Ginger Ballard, and his sons, David Ballard, wife Brandi, grandchildren Max, Haley and Madison; William Patrick Podraza, wife Kristen, grandchildren Logan and Kirrah. His Aunt Charlotte Sherwood, sister, Charlene, cousins Belinda, Regina and Jeff and friends. He cherished the relationships he built throughout his life, finding joy in the company of his loved ones.
Homer is preceded in passing by his parents, Homer Ballard Sr and Erma Catherine Sherwood Ballard, Uncle Jerry Sherwood, Uncle Sam and Aunt Mable Bryd, numerous family members and friends whom undoubtedly instilled in him the values that guided his life.,
Homer Ballard Jr will be remembered for his dedication to his profession, his unwavering love for his family, and the lasting impact he made on the hearts of those he touched throughout his life. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was cherished and admired by many.
